Mount Tabor broke open a close game at East Forsyth in the third quarter to cruise to a 71-43 victory in the season opener for both teams in Kernersville Tuesday night.

The Spartans trailed 15-13 midway through the second quarter as East controlled the tempo with patient offense, but scored 12 straight over a two-minute stretch to seize the lead. After leading by eight at the break, Mount Tabor scored 17 of the first 19 points of the third quarter to take control of the game.

The taller Spartans out rebounded East by eight in the third period & forced 10 turnovers with by increased pressure to open up leads of as many as 31 in the second half. Quest Aldridge led all scorers with 18 points for Mount Tabor while Savon Brintley led the Eagles in scoring with 16.

East Forsyth returns to action Thursday night at home against Parkland in a game originally scheduled for Friday, but moved to avoid conflicting with the Eagles’ third-round game in the state 4A football playoffs at home against Greensboro Grimsley.
