College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 61, Roanoke 53

SALEM, N.C. – Freshman Lindsay Gauldin scored a career-best 23 points as Guilford College won an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game at Roanoke College, 61-53, on Wednesday night.

Gauldin made 5-of-8 field goals and converted 13-of-17 free throws in the contest. The 13 made free throws were the sixth-best in Guilford history and the 17 attempted free throws are the third most in Quaker lore. Gauldin is the first Quaker freshman to tally 20 points since Anais Weatherly ’17, who had 20 versus Roanoke Feb. 9, 2014. In her stellar night, she added 13 rebounds, five assists, and eight steals.

Following the game, Guilford improved to 3-3 and 2-1 in league action. The Maroons fell to 4-3 and 0-3 in the ODAC.

The Quakers raced to a 10-0 lead to start the game and never trailed. GC led 25-17 at halftime. Guilford held 38-35 edge heading to the final 10 minutes and outscored RC by five points in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Miracle Walters added 15 points for the visitors. She was 6-of-13 shooting for the Quakers.

Guilford led in rebounds (47-31) and assists (11-8). The Quakers shot 39-percent (18-47) and held the Maroons to 33-percent shooting (22-65). At the free throw line, the visitors converted 24-35 from the charity stripe to 7-12 for Roanoke.

The Maroons had three players record double digits in the contest. Molly Hassell and Whitney Hopson both netted 13 points for the home club. Kristina Harrel added 10 points for Roanoke.

Quakers host Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday. The ODAC contest begins at 2 p.m.
