  1. All student-athletes and their parents and coaches must sign honor codes before participating in any athletic contest. In the honor codes, student-athletes, parents and coaches pledge to abide by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s (NCHSAA’s) eligibility requirements.

“It is critical that only eligible students participate in high school and middle school sports,” said Leigh Hebbard, the GCS athletic director. “This is a perfect opportunity for us to teach our children through example to be more than athletes. It’s another level of character education for them.”

The campaign comes on the heels of 12 eligibility violations in 10 sports at Northern High. “Students need to learn that demonstrating good character and sportsmanship are just as important as winning, if not more so,” said Superintendent Maurice “Mo” Green.

In addition, GCS has set up an e-mail address and direct phone line to report suspected athletic-eligibility violations. To report suspected athletic-eligibility violations, e-mail fairplay@gcsnc.com or call (336) 574-2994. All phone calls and e-mails will remain confidential.

  2. I think they did move the games to Saturday….Last thing I saw on MaxPreps had the SEG-Smith Girls game going at 2pm on Saturday….

  3. FairPlay……give it a rest. Northern was the school that exposed everything. Page and Dudley with the IB program is a free recruiting process. Find something today is more relevant to today.

  4. SEG Varsity plays at 4:30 PM. Looking for a break out game from Lars Nilsen. He’s struggled the last 2 games and the kid is averaging 17 points a game. This kid is the real deal.

  5. Great onside kick, but Falcons recover. SEG has the ball & a 21-18 lead. Dudley has used its final time out. The Falcons QB just iced the game with a 1st down run.

  6. Dudley doesn’t have an IB program so that doesn’t make sense. Real problem is when schools hire AAU coaches to take over programs. Then you start to see players switch schools from year to year.Really starting to become prevalent in girls basketball. Hate to see it happen as it leads to unbalanced games which is not fun for either team but until Guilford County takes a harder look at this and actually does something to prevent students from changing schools so easily it will continue to be a problem.

  8. In response to Really?: As long as the high school coach has the child’s best interest in hand & their heart is in the right place and is trying to develop the kids, it really shouldn’t matter if the coach is an AAU coach or not – as long as they qualify for the position. Why penalize or deny them the job if they are an AAU coach. In fact, I would rather have an experienced coach vs. a non experienced coach in that position. Sounds like you would be okay with a history teacher with no experience coaching a program. Hmmmm, to each his own. It would make more sense to hire more qualified coaches in theses positions to develop these kids and programs, then maybe programs would be more balanced and fun for all. Oh and I do believe that there is a pretty strict process that is in place to avoid kids from changing schools without valid reasons.

  9. That kind of thinking is what started the mess at NOrthern with Kowvaleski or whatever his name was years ago.

  10. By the way Really, the reassignment process is mainly for academic reasons and cannot and will not be approved if there are not valid reasons that are in the best interest of the kid. And yes, kids may be able to get the same education at SW, Eastern, or Dudley as they get at Ragsdale; however, if these kids can get college credits at GTCC, which is conveniently located next to Ragsdale then I would say that’s an awesome deal. All of the kids that are being referenced and criticized on these posts are all STUDENT-athletes. They are students first and athletes second so a good basketball program is a bonus. The number of college credits that they will carry with them to college is outstanding. So what you and Exposed fail to understand is that these kids are planning their academic future by making sure that they have community college credits under their belt that will actually transfer to a college of their choice – so when they do play ball in college, their load wont be as heavy. Kudos to the parents who are looking out for the best interest of their children by planning long term academically. Shame on all who criticizes a parent for doing what’s best for their child. Unfortunately, the problem is that so many people tend to look from the outside in without knowing all of the facts and never understand the what behind the why. That’s the real problem. The parents that are being referenced are not short term thinkers – they are looking beyond high school basketball into their child’s future. So if you think that the kids that got reassigned used an invalid reason or have lied, then your assumptions are twisted. Everyone who was in question have been investigated and have been cleared so let it go. As Andy pointed out in a different post, kids get reassigned all of the time for a variety of valid reasons and parents can relocate anytime at their will for any reason. As a matter of fact SW benefits EVERY YEAR from reassignments & relocations into both their football program and boys varsity basketball program. I’m assuming other schools have benefited too (but I won’t assume) However, it’s only a problem when the shoe is on the other foot. It’s just best to not make assumptions, stir the pot or throw shade unless you know that facts! #stayinyourlane

  11. Hmmm. Doesn’t NCATSU have a program for students to earn college credits while in high school?
Pretty sure it is located close to Dudley which has a good coach and a good program.
So when student athletes start using the reassignment process to leave their assigned districts which offers the same academic opportunities as well as athletic opportunities you don’t think that is suspicious?

  12. Pretty sure the College Promise program is NOT at NC A&T State University. And the young lady that came from Dudley did not use reassignment process. Do your research!! Also, recruiting requires an invite from the school or coach, which never happened. #webstersdictionary if you need it #lookitup
