College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 62, Eastern Mennonite 57

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Freshman Lindsay Gauldin recorded game-highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds as Guilford College held off Eastern Mennonite University, 62-57, on Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers improved to 4-3 and 3-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Royals dropped to 2-5, 1-2 in league play.

Gauldin, who had her second straight double-double, was 4-of-6 shooting and converted 8-of-10 free throws. Julie Carini contributed 14 points and Miracle Walters added 12 for Guilford.

GC led 28-26 at halftime. The Quakers led by one point heading to the final quarter.

In the final period, a Gauldin free throw put the home club ahead 57-49 with 1:53 remaining. The Royals then scored the next six points and trailed 57-55 after a jumper from Jess Washington with 46 seconds on the clock. Carini then made a layup and the Quakers added three free throws and held on.

Washington led EMU with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Lindsey Krisak netted 12 points and Lexi Dean came off the bench to score 10 points.

Guilford led in rebounding, 38-24. Eastern Mennonite had 14 turnovers and forced GC 17 miscues.

The Quakers host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Sunday. The non-conference game begins at 2 p.m.
