Quaker Track Teams Open Year at JDL Duals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Guilford College track and field teams opened the season on Sunday at the JDL Early Bird Duals held at the JDL Fast Track.

Ranicha Sargeant set a new Guilford record in the women’s 60-meter dash. Sargeant, a freshman, clocked an 8.49 time which bettered the program mark on 8.50 set by Alise Green on Feb. 11, 2017. Sophomore teammate Carmen Curtis recorded the sixth-best time in program history after she posted an 8.62 mark in the same race.

Sophomore Marian Cooper ran the sixth fastest 3000M time (11:38.01). Copper was 10th of 20 competitors in the event. Freshman Taylor Tremblay was the 17th in the 300M after recording a 12:36. Sophomore Jamie Britt placed 35th in the long jump after posting a mark of 4.12 meters and was 33rd in the 200M dash (29.75).

On the men’s side, the Quaker 4×400-meter relay team placed 22nd of 24 teams with a 3:47.81 time. The team consisted of four freshmen: Amir Abdur-Rahim; Ben James; Keshawn Murray and Will Nowatka.

Sophomore Asa Bell finished 27th in the 60M dash after clocking a 7.34 time. Kyahl Dorsey placed 25th in the long after the freshman leaped 5.62 meters. Abdur-Rahim was the fastest of four Quakers entered in the 200M. He was 28th after posting a 24:85 time.

The Quakers return to action on January 11 at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational. The two-day meet takes place in Johnson City, Tennessee.
