Women’s College Basketball Final: Guilford 70, NC Wesleyan 55

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miracle Walters scored a career-best 28 points as Guilford College defeated visiting North Carolina Wesleyan College, 70-55, in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon. Walters made 12-of-16 field goals and converted 4-of-7 free throws in the victory.

The Quakers improved to 5-3. The Bishops fell to 1-5.

The home club led the entire contest. Guilford held NCWC to 14-percent shooting (5-36) in the first half and held a 28-14 edge at the break. In the second half, the Bishops never cut the margin to single digits.

The Quakers shot a season-best 51-percent (26-51) in the game. NC Wesleyan was 23-71 (32-percent) from the field for the full 40 minutes.

Calyn Davis added 12 points for Guilford. Cydney Nichols had 11 points and was the only Bishop to tally in double figures.

Freshman Lindsay Gauldin grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for the home team. It was her fourth straight game–and fifth overall–with 10 or more boards. Teammate Julie Carini collected 12 caroms. Guilford won the battle of the boards, 42-37.

North Carolina Wesleyan committed only eight turnovers and forced 19 Quaker miscues.

Guilford plays at Bridgewater College this Saturday (12/8). The ODAC game starts at 2 p.m.
