HPT HiToms Release 2019 Schedule, Featuring 31 Home Games

The High Point-Thomasville HiToms have released their 2019 schedule, featuring 31 home games at historic Finch Field in 2019 as part of the organization’s 20th season as a member of the Coastal Plain League.

The HiToms begin the 2019 campaign with two home games on Memorial Day weekend – an opening night game against the Kernersville Bulldogs on Saturday, May 25, followed by clash with the Catawba Valley Stars the following day.

The defending CPL Southwest Region champions will also continue their longtime tradition of hosting a 4th of July home game followed by postgame fireworks, after seeing a record crowd in attendance a season ago.

“2018’s run to the Petitt Cup Championship Series is a testament to our Hometown HiToms and HPT community’s support,” HPT HiToms president Greg Suire said. “We are emboldened by the challenges that 2019 present and I am certain that our fan base – that stretches back to 1937 – will enjoy watching the ‘rising stars’ that represent the Hometown HiToms.”

“Our entire organization understands our franchise growth continues to demand more of us, and I am certain that the HPT community will be energized by our quest.”

The HiToms enjoyed one of the organization’s most successful seasons in recent memory in 2018. High Point-Thomasville won the first-half West Division title for the first time since 2007, clinching a spot in the CPL Playoffs.

HPT then followed that by defeating the Forest City Owls 16-0 at Finch Field in the divisional round of the playoffs before shutting out the Savannah Bananas 3-0 on the road to earn the Southwest Region crown.

That victory sent the HiToms the Petitt Cup Championship Series for the first time since winning three straight Petitt Cup titles from 2006 to 2008.
However, the HiToms historic season came to an end there, as HPT lost to the Morehead City Marlins in the championship series.

High Point-Thomasville’s roster posted a bevy of impressive individual numbers in 2018. Most notably, Myles Christian (Middle Tennessee) broke the CPL single-season home run record by blasting his 18th home run on the final day of the regular season.

Austin Pharr (Columbus State) joined Christian to provide a fearsome one-two punch in the middle of the order. Pharr finished top five in the league in nearly every offensive category, including a .742 slugging percentage that ranked second-best in CPL history. That earned the power-hitting lefty CPL Hitter of the Year honors, the second straight season a HiTom won the award.

Both players were also named CPL Offensive Player of the Week during the 2018 season, and both were 1st Team All-CPL selections.
Christian and Pharr, along with three other HiToms, were also named to Perfect Game’s CPL top prospect list. The duo was joined by 2nd Team All-CPL selection Burl Carraway (Dallas Baptist), Taylor Sugg (North Carolina), and Dylan Enwiller (North Carolina).
