HPU WBB Panthers Fall at Clemson, 83-64

CLEMSON, S.C. – The High Point women’s basketball team fell at Clemson, 64-83, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Clemson, S.C.

High Point (4-4) posted a 35.9 percent (23-64) shooting percentage, while Clemson (6-3) was 49.2 percent (31-63) from the field. HPU forced the Tigers into 24 turnovers for the game. Clemson out-rebounded the Panthers 49-29.

Senior Lindsey Edwards led the Purple & White with a season-high 19 points, while senior Emma Bockrath was tops on the team in rebounds with nine. Bockrath added 17 points and senior Shea Morgan logged 15 points for the Panthers. Junior Camryn Brown dished out a team-high five assists.

“Really just disappointed in the first half,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “I thought, we came out at our UNCG game and played like a team, and we came out at the beginning of this game and did not. I think that was a significant difference of what we look like when we play together and what we look like when we try to do it by ourselves.”

Clemson grabbed a 44-25 lead going into halftime, but the Panthers responded by out-scoring the Tigers 20-15 in the third quarter. HPU went on a 7-0 run from 5:28 mark to the 4:10 mark in the third quarter to cut the lead to 52-39. The Purple & White shot 47.4 percent (9-19) from the field and 30.8 percent (4-13) from three, while Clemson was 63.6 percent (7-11) and 33.3 percent (2-6) from behind the arc in the quarter.

Both teams were tied in fast break points with six apiece, but Clemson out-scored the Panthers in the paint 38-26.

Kobi Thornton led the Tigers with 21 points, while Tylar Bennett grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.

Up next, the Panthers will welcome Norfolk State to the Millis Center on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
