Former Dudley head football coach and Page assistant Victor Floyd leads his Chester Cyclones team to South Carolina 3-A State Championship(First for the school in 55 years)

from Travis Jenkins at the News and Reporter and onlinechester.com in Chester, South Carolina:

For most of the world, Dec. 7 is remembered as “a day that will in infamy.” In Chester County, though, from here on out, it will be a day that lives in history.
(This line kind of reminds me of one of our posts here at the site, from earlier in the day.)

The Chester Cyclones football team, which had not won a state title in 55 years and had the most non-winning seasons of any team in the state in one recent 40-year stretch put a giant exclamation point on the greatest season in program history, beating defending champs Dillon 34-28 Friday night to claim the AAA state championship.

Chester, largely viewed as an underdog against a dynastic Wildcats program that was playing in the state finals for the seventh straight year, landed the first big punch of the night. Starting the game’s first drive at Dillon’s 48 after a nice kick return by Emmanual Wright to start the contest, the Cyclones needed one play to reach the end zone, with Pha’Leak Brown getting loose and racing to the end zone. That marked only the second rushing touchdown allowed by the Wildcats all season. “The start was important because of the bright lights,” said Chester Coach Victor Floyd(Dudley High School head coach/Page HS assistant coach).
