Women’s Basketball Blows Past Mustangs, 83-44

GREENSBORO, N.C.-The Greensboro College women’s basketball team dominated the Mustangs of Mid-Atlantic Christian University Saturday, 83-44.

The Pride dropped 22 points on the Mustangs in the first quarter to take an 11-point edge into the second quarter. A’Liyah Woods lead Greensboro in the first quarter with seven points.

Greensboro’s offense stayed hot by starting a 16-4 run at the start of the second quarter with a three-point basket by Ashley Free. Free went on to score two more points during the run, while Brianna Best followed suit and recorded five points to extend the lead to 38-15.

At the end of the first half, the Pride had a healthy 46-18 lead after recording nine steals and 13 fastbreak points.

Greensboro returned after the half and started up a 7-1 run. Sabria Joseph was responsible for six of those points.

By the end of the third quarter, the Pride extended their lead to 75-26. Freshman Lauren Whitley dropped 11 points in the third, nine of them being from three-point baskets.

The Mustangs fought to cut down the deficit, but Greensboro’s offense refused to slow down and the Pride claimed the 39-point victory.

“We have a deep bench and I felt like we were able to eat away at the Mustangs’ bench today,” Assistant Coach Johnnie Richardson said.

“We have some adjustments to make, but we are looking forward to Thursday’s game.”

Free recorded a game-high 19 points, while Woods (10), Joseph (16) and Lauren Whitley (14) joined her in double figures scoring.
