College Women’s Swimming Final – Roanoke 148, Guilford 15

SALEM, Va. – Roanoke College posted a 148-15 women’s swimming victory over visiting Guilford College Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) meet at the Salem YMCA Saturday. The Maroons improved to 9-0 (5-0 ODAC) with the win. Guilford is 0-2 (0-2 ODAC).

Roanoke won all eight individual races and both relays in the 10-event meet. Elizabeth Roberts and Sarah Virginia Scott both posted two individual victories. Roberts also swam on the Maroons’ winning 200-yard medley relay. She picked up wins in the 50 freestyle (25.91 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:05/39). Scott won the 200 individual medley in 2:27.6 and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.80).

Rebecca Shenhouse had the Quakers’ top individual performance as she accounted for 6.5 of the team’s 15 points. Shenhouse had a third-place time of 2:53.04 in the 200 individual medley and came back to take third in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.95). She also swam a leg on Guilford’s 200 medley relay, which claimed third in 2:21.2. Teammate Carolyn O’Halloran accounted for 5.5 points with a third-place effort in the 100 freestyle (1:02.11) and a fifth-time time in the 50 freestyle (27.69). She also swam on the 200 medley relay. Guilford’s Audrey Helfenbein completed the 100 backstroke in 1:16.62, good for sixth place and two team points.

Coach Brad Herndon’s team returns to action January 13 in a dual meet with ODAC-rival Randolph College hosted by Hampden-Sydney College.
