Crunching the Names and Numbers on the Weddington Warriors, as the SEG Falcons prepare to face the Weddington football team, this Friday

It’s the Southeast Guilford Falcons vs. the Weddington Warriors this coming Friday night, at Kenan Stadium, in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Kickoff set for 7:30pm and SEG is (14-1), and Weddington is also at (14-1) on the season…SEG lost to the Northwest Guilford Vikings 28-27 in Overtime, back in late August, while Weddington fell to Charlotte Catholic, 20-0, on September 28…Weddington finished second in their conference this season going (6-1), with that lone conference loss being to Charlotte Catholic, the only team to shutdown Weddington, all season long…..

In their most recent playoff game, Weddington crushed Mount Tabor, 45-12, back on Friday night, in Winston-Salem…Weddington has pretty much rolled in the playoffs, dropping Central Cabarrus in Round One, 48-0, then it was the Weddington Warriors Round Two victory, 33-6 past South Iredell, then the Warriors were winners, 42-14 over Watauga….And Weddington claimed the NCHSAA 3-AA West Title last Friday night at Bob Sapp Stadium, 45-12 over the Mount Tabor Spartans, over in Winston-Salem….

Weddington whipped Eastern Guilford, 33-20 back in 2016 to take the 2016 NCHSAA 3-AA State Title, at BB&T Field, in Winston-Salem…When you saw the WF on the Wake Forest field and you saw Weddington out there winning over EG, you thought you were looking at Weddington Football, on the Weddington Football Field…

Northern Guilford topped Weddington 14-7 to grab the NCHSAA 3-AA Crown back in 2014, at Carter-Finley Stadium, in Raleigh….

Weddington is in the 3-AA Football state title game for the third time in the past five years….Weddington, making their way back to the Championship Game and Southeast Guilford, getting to this level, for the first time in school history…

Southeast taking down Cape Fear in Round One, 21-8…In Round Two SEG eases past Eastern Guilford, 9-3 in OT, then in their Round Three playoff macthup with the Dudley Panthers, SEG fought back to pick up the 21-8 nail-biter….

Weddington brings in an experienced bunch with Whitner Litton as their QB….Litton was 13-19 with one TD and 141 passing yards vs. Mount Tabor….The feature runningback for the Weddington Warriors has been Wayne Dixie, who ran for three touchdowns versus the Mount Tabor Spartans last Friday night, in Winston…Dixie had 91 yards rushing the ball vs. Tabor…

The Player of the Game in that Mount Tabor game for Weddington was sophomore RB Will Shipley…Shipley ran the ball 17 times for 73 yards for Weddington vs. Mt. Tabor and Shipley passed for one TD to his brother James Shipley, and Will Shipley caught a TD pass from Whitner Litton…

The Weddington Warriors have another strong receiver in Chazton Jordan and he also plays DB, plus there is receiver Max Brimington who can also cause problems…Jordan had a pick vs. Tabor….

It looks for sure like the four key offensive players for the Weddington Warriors are the quarterback #12 Litton, RB #9 Will Shipley, WR/DB #16 James Shipley and RB #21 Wayne Dixie…Dixie and Will Shipley pretty rotate at the running back spot…Dixie the senior, and Will Shipley, the sophomore….

The kicker who has a strong and productive foot is #15 Ian Williams….

Versus Mount Tabor, Weddington pretty much did whatever they wanted running the ball for 235 yards and passing for 146 yards….That gave the Warriors 381 Total Yards vs. the Mount Tabor Spartans….The Weddington defense gave 187 total yards to Tabor…

So, it will be the Southeast Guilford Falcons(14-1) vs. the Weddington Warriors(14-1), with SEG coming in as the #2 seed out of the East, and Weddington, entering the championship game as the #5 seed out of the West….

Game time 7:30pm on Friday night, from Kenan Stadium, in Chapel Hill….The winner of this SEG-Weddington game will be crowned the 2018 NCHSAA 3-AA Football Champion….

  1. From what I can tell Will Shipley is serious business. He got offered from pretty much every off season camp that I was aware that he went to (almost every ACC school and The University of South Carolina have offered him). 247 Sports has him rated as a 5 star prospect.

That being said, football is a team sport and the team that executes the best will win Friday night.

  2. Scratch that. Several ACC teams have offered, not almost all. I knew about Wake and Virginia when they happened.
