College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 73, Meredith 60

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Victoria Young tallied a team and career-best 16 points as Guilford College defeated visiting Meredith College, 73-60, on Friday night. Young was 7-of-9 shooting and made two three-point baskets for the home team.

The win was the Quakers fifth straight for the Quakers as they improved to 6-3 after the non-conference win. The Avenging Angels dropped to 0-9.

Guilford led from start to finish and held a 39-24 lead at halftime.

Three others scored in double figures for the Quakers. Lindsay Gauldin recorded 14 points, 12 rebounds and had five steals. Calyn Davis had 14 points and made three from beyond the arc. Miracle Walters added 12 points for GC.

The Quakers shot 52-percent (26-50) and made 9-of-19 three-pointers. It was the third straight game Guilford has shot 50-percent or better. Meredith made 24-of-60 shots for 40-percent.

Meredith, which played seven players in the contest, out-scored Guilford 20-17 in the fourth period. Madison Gladwell (8-of-14 shooting) led all players with 21 points. Kimberly Schuh and Caroline
Coleman contributed 14 and 11 points respectively for the Avenging Angels.

The Quakers led in rebounding, 34-28. Meredith committed 15 turnovers and forced 18 Quaker miscues.

Guilford travels to Atlanta for a game at Oglethorpe on Sunday (12/16). Tip-off is 2 p.m.
