Danny Harnden reporting tonight on the FOX 8 Friday night sports that Chuck Doak, the former defensive coordinator at Southwest Guilford High School, will be returning to Southwest Guilford HS, as the SWG Cowboys new head football coach, replacing Eric Rainey who resigned last month….
I was just telling Coach Res, the new offensive coordinator at Western Guilford, yesterday that Coach Doak might still have a shot at the Cowboys head job…
Coach Res and I agreed that Coach Doak fits the need at SWG and can run the role…Doak has his teaching degree and he can be an on-site teacher and coach at SWG….That is what the schools are still looking for these days in a head football coach…You need to be able to be on-site and teach at the school and you need your college degree and Coach Doak meets those qualifications….
We probably know Coach Doak as good as anybody in the Triad…
We knew him when he was at Southeast Guilford High School…He was coaching football and nearly became the head baseball coach, when Lynn Coble left SEG…
We knew Coach Doak when he was at Eastern Guilford coaching football…He wasn’t at EG long…
We knew Coach Doak when he was at Northwest Guilford HS and he was an assistant coach for the Vikings..
We knew Coach Doak when he became the assistant coach and then defensive coordinator at Southwest Guilford…Coach Doak was at SWG for around 5-6 years…
Coach Doak had a head coaching job down in Brunswick County last year, and he took the job, then he later turned them down…Coach Doak became the head football coach at a charter school down near Monroe, and then I saw him at the Western Guilford-Southwest Guilford game on a Monday night game this season, and it sure looked like he might want to come back to Guilford County…..The job down at Monroe would have had Coach Doak continuing to build a team from scratch….
And now he is….FOX 8 Sports and Danny Harnden reporting Coach Doak has taken the job and now he is the new head football coach at Southwest Guilford High School….
We know the old coach well, and we welcome him back to Guilford County….We used to interview Coach Doak prior to all of his Junior American Legion Baseball Games, at Southeast Guilford High School….

Good luck back at Southwest Guilford for Coach Chuck Doak….He is a good one and should do a good job at Southwest Guilford High School…..
