Mount Tabor scored 22 of the game’s first 24 points, then withstood a furious rally by East Forsyth to a win it’s sixth game of the season 59-49 at Spartans Gymnasium. Quest Aldridge led the winners with 20 points, including 14 in the first half.
The visiting Eagles chipped away at the early deficit, trailed by 13 at the half, then continued to close the gap throughout the third quarter, trailing by two points (38-36) with 1:20 remaining in the quarter behind relentless pressure from senior guards Jimmy Nichols & Savon Brintley, who led East in scoring with 20 points.
But Mount Tabor patiently rebuilt it’s lead behind the inside play of Jakob Moore (11 points, 8 rebounds) & Dillon Bullard (9 points, 11 rebounds) to score the game’s next 14 points over 5:30 spanning the quarters to seal the win. Andrew Muse added 10 for Mount Tabor.
The Eagles, the top seed in the Pepsi bracket, return to the court next Wednesday against Carver at 1 p.m. in the first round of the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, the first of games on three consecutive nights in the storied Christmas tournament.
Mount Tabor, the second seed in the Champions Bracket in the Spencer tournament, opens play next Wednesday night against West Forsyth.
