Elon MBB Drops Non-Conference Finale at UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Elon University men’s basketball fell in its non-conference finale, 95-59, at UMKC on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 22, inside the Municipal Auditorium.

Elon (4-9) had three players score in double figures and were led by Kris Wooten, who scored 13 points in his first-career start. Nathan Priddy added 11 points and Federico Poser tallied 10 points. Both Poser and Andy Pack each grabbed a team-best five rebounds, while Priddy dished out a team-high three assists.

Six players scored in double figures for UMKC (5-9). Jamel Allen scored a team-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting off the bench to lead the Roos. Marvin Nesbitt Jr. and Brandon McKissic tallied 15 points apiece, Xavier Bishop and Rob Whitfield each scored 13 points, and Jordan Giles added 10 points for UMKC.

Wooten scored in double figures for the second-straight game in his first-career start. His 13 points against UMKC is a season-high for the freshman. The Roos shot 53.2 percent from the floor and a blistering 61.5 percent from three. UMKC capitalized on Phoenix miscues as they scored 37 points off 20 Elon turnovers.

HIGHLIGHTS
Elon took a 9-8 lead into the first media timeout after Priddy’s triple at the 16:11 mark. Although the Roos used a 7-0 run to take a 15-8 lead, the Phoenix took the lead right back with seven answered led by Poser’s four points.

After the Phoenix and Roos were all tied up at 19-19 at 9:10, UMKC outscored Elon 34-10 over the final 10:50 to take a 53-29 lead into the half. During the first 20 minutes, UMKC forced Elon to commit 14 turnovers, which led to 26 points for the Roos.

UMKC extended its lead to 33 points eight minutes into the second half to take a 72-39 lead with 12:25 on the clock. Elon trimmed the Roos’ lead to as little as 27 points, but UMKC didn’t allow the Phoenix to reach any closer and went on the earn the 95-59 victory.
