Elon’s Wooten Named CAA MBB Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University men’s basketball freshman guard Kris Wooten has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, Dec. 24.

Wooten averaged 11.5 points while shooting 60 percent from the floor (9-15) and 55.6 percent from three-point range (5-9) as Elon split a pair of road games last week to conclude non-conference action.

The Kinston, N.C. native, who had scored just 18 points all season entering the week, tallied 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in a 76-67 triumph at Kennesaw State on Tuesday, Dec. 18. He then earned his first career start at UMKC and delivered a team and season-high 13 points.

Wooten becomes the first Phoenix player to earn a weekly accolade from the conference this season. He is also Elon’s first CAA Rookie of the Week selection since Tyler Seibring earned the honor for the third time his freshman campaign on Jan. 18, 2016.

The Phoenix returns to Schar Center on Friday, Dec. 28, to open CAA play against the Towson Tigers. The matchup will tip-off at 7 p.m.
