EAST FORSYTH 4 17 14 15 - 50
CARVER 6 10 12 12 - 40

East Forsyth (4-3): Zyun Reeves 12, Matt Rivers 10, McCummings 8, Nichols 8, Brintley 7, Lyles 3, Cobbs 2.

Carver (4-5): Collin Baker 13, Curtis Wilson 12, Reid 9, Thon 6.

East Forsyth survived a cold start in the frigid Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum and advanced to the second round of the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic with a 50-40 win over Carver. In tomorrow’s semifinals (430p), East will play North Forsyth (2-5), who dropped a 58-48 decision to the Eagles on December 17 on the Vikings’ home floor.

East Forsyth, the top-seed in the Pepsi Bracket, trailed 6-4 after the first period in which neither team could connect in the chilly arena, but pulled ahead before the half behind relentless pressure defense that forced 25 total Yellowjackets turnovers, 13 in the first two periods.

The Eagles built on their five-point margin (21-16) at the half to lead by as many as 13 (46-33) in the second half of a slow-paced game, the last of four games in the Pepsi Bracket of the Spencer tournament’s opening round.

Sophomore Zyun Reeves led East with 12 points, 7 rebounds & five blocked shots and senior Matt Rivers added 10. Carver’s Collin Baker led all scorers with 13 points and Curtis Wilson added 12 for the Yellowjackets, who play Glenn in the consolation round at Parkland High School tomorrow afternoon.
