DANVILLE, Va. – Eric Peaks Jr. scored a game-high 24 points as the Greensboro College men’s basketball team fell to the Cougars of Averett University Saturday 87-74.

After Keyford Langley hit a three-pointer to tie the game for Greensboro in the first minute of action, Averett went on a 17-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 20-5 lead heading into the first media timeout.

Greensboro then went on a 11-5 run of their own over the next 3:32 to pull back to within nine points but could not get any closer in the half as Averett went on to take a 44-32 lead into the break.

During the Greensboro run, Peaks Jr. tallied seven points, including an old-fashion three-point play, while Jordan McCray and Keyshawn Dorsey chipped in two points apiece.

Following the break, the Pride quickly pulled back to within seven points as Peaks Jr. hit from long range before Carmoni Marks scored his second basket of the game to make the score 44-37.

Despite having the early momentum on their side, Greensboro could not overcome the deficit as the Cougars pulled away for the 13-point victory.

“It obviously wasn’t our greatest outing of the season,” Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “We are still trying to find a way to get better each practice in an effort to lead to better results.”

“We have another chance next Wednesday to lace it up against a good Wesleyan team.”

Michael Phifer joined Peaks Jr. in double figures with 10, while Marks and Dante White combined for 15 points.

The Pride men will return to action at 7:30 Wednesday when they host the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College.
