Women’s College Basketball Final: Guilford 58, Shenandoah 45

WINCHESTER, Va. — Calyn Davis scored a game-high 14 points as Guilford College won at Shenandoah University, 58-45, on Saturday afternoon. A freshman, Davis was 3-of-6 shooting, made two three-pointers and all four of her free throws.

The Quakers improved to 9-4 and 6-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Guilford has won three straight games and seven of its last eight contests. The Hornets dropped to 6-7 and 2-4 in league action.

Guilford led 26-11 at halftime. GC held the Hornets to 17-percent shooting (4-24) in the first half. Davis had nine of her points in the opening 20 minutes.

SU, however, rallied in the second half. The Hornets outscored Guilford 18-11 in the third quarter. Shenandoah trailed 41-39 with 4:56 left in regulation after a Mackenzie Mathis layup. The visitors then went on a 5-0 run and converted 8-of-8 free throws in the final 31 seconds to pull away.

Miracle Walters had 10 points and eight rebounds for Guilford. Lindsay Gauldin added 10 points but had her streak of consecutive double-doubles halted at four games.

Ashley Stone paced the Hornets with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Teammate Jordan Sondrol contributed 10 points.

Guilford made 23-of-26 free throws (89-percent) to SU’s 8-of-12 (67-percent). The Quakers were 16-of-45 shooting (36-percent) to Shenandoah’s 17-57 (30-percent). The home team led in rebounding,
45-41.

The Quakers host Emory & Henry on Wednesday. The ODAC game begins at 5 p.m.

  1. Gauldin only played half the game due to a knee injury that happened in the 2nd qtr.

  2. Ouch for Lindsay, hope she is able to get back in the Guilford women’s lineup soon….Guilford needs her and her scoring and rebounding…

    Get Gauldin back in there and we put out a shout out to the Quaker trainers and hope they can get her/Lindsay, back on the basketball court….
