Terrell Leach, a former player at WSSU, has landed at Virginia Union

The itch to continue to play college basketball was there, and Terrell Leach, a former Winston-Salem State player, decided to scratch it.

And now, after two years in the working world, Leach is back playing at Virginia Union as he became eligible second semester.

Leach, 24, was living in his hometown of High Point and working in Thomasville helping assemble bus seats when Coach Jay Butler reached out to Leach through Facebook.

“I got a message from Coach Butler, and so I called to see what he wanted,” Leach said Sunday by telephone from Richmond, Va. “I still wanted to play and continue my education toward that degree, so it’s worked out.”

Leach played in his first game on Saturday night at Queens as the Panthers lost 102-85. He came off the bench and played 27 minutes with 13 points as he went 4 of 15 from the field. Not bad considering his last college game was Feb. 23, 2016, when WSSU lost 67-65 to Lincoln (Pa.) in the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte with Leach scoring 21 points.

“It had been awhile since my last game but I felt comfortable back out there again,” Leach said of his debut with the Panthers.
