Elliott Breaks HPU Panther Track Record In Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG, Va. – High Point University pole vaulters Nathalie Elliott and Carter Clasper posted a pair of top performances at the Virginia Tech Invite on Saturday, as the Panthers competed in their second meet of the weekend.

The day got started with a program record-setting performance from Elliott over in the women’s vault, topping the 3.95m clearance she recorded in the Big South Championship in 2018. Finishing with a 4.12m overall, Elliott becomes the first Panther in Division I history to clear over four meters in an indoor event, hitting her mark on her first attempt.

Elliott tied with Panther alum Jill Marois, who was competing unattached in the event. The former HPU athlete’s outdoor mark of 4.22m still stands as a school D1 record.

Carter Clasper continued HPU’s impressive outing to earn a mark of 5.02m in the men’s pole vault. The tally sets a new personal record for the junior, beating the previous 4.95m he collected at the 2018 Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships, coming within .20m of the Panthers’ all-time best.

In addition to Clasper, HPU Assistant Coach Scott Houston cleared a height of 5.57m on the day, the top mark of the afternoon in Blacksburg.
