Coming off the heels of 2OT game in the HAECO tournament, Grimsley alumnus Bill Chambers brought his Nighthawk team to Sawyer Gymnasium for another hard fought overtime battle.

The Whirlies took an early lead in the first quarter with junior wingman Ahmil Flowers scoring Grimsley’s first 10 points. The second quarter was nip/tuck and ended with Grimleys taking 9 point lead to the locker room at halftime.

The Nighthawks made a furious second half comeback, fueled by tough pressure defense which caused some untimely Whirlies turnovers, and took a one lead with seconds left in the contest on a huge 3 pointer by Rashaun Pleasant.

Whirlie freshman Travis Shaw was fouled on a tough post move and made 1 of 2 free-throws, sending the game into overtime. A back and forth extra period ended with the Whirlies riding the back of Flowers’ career-high 28 points to take 53-51 victory.
