GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five players scored in double figures as the Greensboro College women’s basketball team cruised to a 105-76 victory over the Royals of Regent University Sunday.

Greensboro opened up the game with a 20-3 run over the first five minutes before taking a 32-11 lead into the second period.

The Pride got eight points from Sabria Joseph during the opening run while Katie Lewis added five points.

Greensboro then continued to pull away from the Royals over the first three minutes of the second period as Christina Childers tallied two baskets on consecutive possessions to make the score 45-17 with 6:02 to play in the half.

Following the Greensboro spurt, the Pride began to trade baskets with the Royals before Brianna Best recorded a layup with 29 seconds on the clock to send Greensboro into the break with a 57-27 lead.

Over the final half, Greensboro continued to shoot the ball well and was able to take their largest lead of the contest at 83-47 before going on to win by the 29-point margin.

“Today was a team effort,” Assistant Coach Johnnie Richardson said. “We were able to get a lot of people some playing time and they took advantage of their opportunity.

“One thing that we really have to work on is protecting the basketball but on the other hand we shared the ball really well today and finished with 27 assists.”

Joseph finished the game with a double double of 12 points and 13 rebounds while Nichelle Jeffries shot eight-of-11 from the field to finish with a game-high 21 points. Best contributed 17 points and A’Liyah Woods added 11.

The Pride women will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when they host the Angels of Meredith College.
