College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 20, Averett 5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Madison Iandoli scored five goals and three assists in Guilford College’s 20-5 women’s lacrosse victory over Averett University Saturday. Holly Kozak and Abigail Horchar both added four goals for the Quakers (4-2), who won their third straight game.

After a sluggish start, Guilford hit their stride midway through the first half with an 8-1 run over a 12-and-a-half minute span. Iandoli scored three times in the spurt, which helped the Quakers open a 10-3 halftime lead.

The second half was all Guilford as the Quakers outscored Averett (3-2) 10-2 in the final frame. Horchar netted three of her goals in the second half, during which time Guilford held a 16-4 edge in shots.

Kozak notched an assist to finish with five points for Guilford, which outshot Averett, 35-11. Jena Bishop scored a career-high four points with three goals and an assist. Eight different Quakers found the back of the net as the home team notched its second 20-goal game in a week. Sophomore Nia Gill was one of the goal scorers and added five ground balls, a draw control, and four caused turnovers to a solid afternoon. Guilford capitalized on 26 Averett turnovers and got four saves in goal from Kersten Daneau. The Quakers picked up 22 ground balls to the visitor’s nine.

Alixis Roccia paced the Cougars with four points, three goals, and a game-high nine draw controls. Haley Boardway added a goal and an assist. Breanne Sawall made nine saves in goal.
