HPU Women’s Golf: High Point Finishes Fifth at Jackrabbit Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — The High Point University women’s golf team concluded the Jackrabbit Invitational in fifth place Tuesday (March 12) at the Boulder Creek Golf Club (Par 72 – 6,322 yards) in Boulder City, Nev.

The Panthers improved each round of the tournament and shot 305 in the final round, 13 strokes better than the second round and 27 less than the first. HPU finished fifth at 955.

“It was another brutally cold day out there, so I was proud of the girls for grinding and making another 10-plus stroke improvement,” HPU head coach Alexis Bennett said. “Sam and Tonrak are two of the most mentally tough players I’ve coached; it wasn’t a surprise to see them lead the way for us this week in such tough conditions. Certainly not the result we hoped for coming in, nor what we are capable of, but we are excited to have a quick turnaround to Virginia.”

Junior Samantha Vodry shot a team-leading 3-over 74 to finish in a tie for 14th at 237. Fellow junior Tonrak Tasaso recorded a 4-over 75 to finish a team-best tied for 12th at 236.

Freshmen Olivia John and Sarah Kahn each shot 6-over 78’s in the final round. John placed in a tie for 31st at 242, while Kahn was two strokes behind in a tie for 36th. Rounding out the squad was sophomore Caitie Gehlhausen, who finished a stroke behind Kahn at 245.

Next up, the Panthers compete in the Kingsmill Women’s Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va., at the Kingsmill Resort River Course March 18-19.
