Elon Track and Field Begins Outdoor Campaign at Charlotte 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team opened its outdoor season on Friday, March 15, at the Charlotte 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk and Track Center.

RESULTS

Freshman Kristine Strazdite was second in the discus throw with a toss of 45.75m. The Valmiera, Latvia, native broke into the program’s top-five all-time mark in the event. Kathleen Collins was fourth overall in the event with her throw of 42.98m.

Lauren Brzozowski clocked a time of 57.07 in the 400-meters and was eighth overall. In the long jump, Melody Burke finished in the top-10 of the event with her leap of 5.40m. Elyse King had a mark of 5.19m in the event and was 16th overall.

Charlotte Bradsher was Elon’s top finisher in the women’s hammer with a heave of 43.46m. In the 5,000-meters, Bridget Kanaley ran a time of 18:39.61 in the race and finished 11th overall.

Elon is back for the second and final day of the meet tomorrow, March 16, with events kicking off at 10 a.m. with the women’s javelin.
