Elon Women’s Track Phoenix Heads to High Point for the VertKlasse Meeting

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team continues its outdoor season this weekend, March 21-23, at High Point University as the Phoenix will compete at the VertKlasse Meeting at Vert Stadium.

The Bill Webb Combined Events portion of the meet starts on Thursday, March 21, at 9 a.m. The VertKlasse Meeting begins on Friday, March 22, with events kicking off at 10 a.m.

The Bill Webb and the VertKlasse have gained notoriety along the eastern United States in the past decade, with programs from across the coast applying to compete. Among the notable schools expected to be in competition this weekend includes North Carolina, Wake Forest, NC State, Duke, Campbell, Gardner-Webb and host High Point.

Last Time Out
Elon opened the 2019 outdoor season at the Charlotte 49er Classic last weekend, March 15-16. Freshman Kristine Strazdite was second overall in the discus throw with her toss of 150′ 1″ (45.75m). The Valmiera, Latvia, native broke into the program’s top-five all-time mark in the event.

Lauren Brzozowski clocked a time of 57.07 in the 400-meters and was eighth overall. In the long jump, Melody Burke finished in the top-10 of the event with her leap of 5.40m. Elyse King had a mark of 5.19m in the event and was 16th overall.

Brzozowski followed with a time of 24.87 in the 200-meters and was 11th overall. Charlotte Bradsher was Elon’s top finisher in the women’s hammer with a heave of 142′ 7″ (43.46m) and was 15th. In the 5,000-meters, Bridget Kanaley ran a time of 18:39.61 in the race and finished 11th overall.

On Deck
Elon travels to the prestigious Raleigh Relays next weekend, March 29-30, after its spring break next week.
