HIGH POINT, N.C. — The No. 23 High Point University women’s lacrosse team opened up Big South play with 13 different goal scorers in a 22-3 win over Longwood Saturday (March 30) at Vert Stadium.

High Point (7-4, 1-0 Big South) scored the first five goals and then held the Lancers (3-8, 0-1 Big South) without a goal for a stretch of almost 26 minutes to break open the game. HPU led in shots, 36-9, ground balls, 19-7, and draw controls, 20-7.

The 22 goals is tied for the third-most in a single game in program history, while the 20 draw controls is the fourth-most in a single game in program history.

“I thought the girls came out with a lot of energy to start the game,” HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. “I’m proud of the first half and the way we executed the game plan. We had a lot of assisted plays and some great stops on defense. Our ride really drove us hard into the offensive end and our girls did a great job of taking care of the ball, seeing the net and finishing their shots.”

HPU was led at the offensive end by sophomore Abby Hormes, who had six points on four goals and two assists. Junior Ashley Britton recorded two goals and three assists and passed the 100 career-point mark.

Sophomore Kylie Holthaus and freshmen Carol Amster and Mena Loescher each provided three points, with Holthaus and Amster scoring hat tricks and Loescher adding two goals and an assist. Eight other Panthers scored one goal each, including senior Emory Gaeng, who scored her first of the season, and freshman Emma Genovese, who tallied her first collegiate goal.

Up next, the Panthers travel to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday (April 3). First draw in Boiling Springs is set for 4 p.m.
