Zoe Geis Crushes HPU Women’s Track & Field Panther 10,000m Record In Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. – High Point University women’s track and field collects four top-10 finishes in day one of this weekend’s Raleigh Relays, with Zoe Geis’ program record of 35:02.80 in the 10,000m leading the way.

With her race starting at 9 PM eastern time, Geis ran to the fastest pace in Panther history on Friday night, outbidding the 35:37.55 she set at 2018 Big South Championships by over 30 seconds. Competing in a field of some of the top long distance runners in the country, Geis’ new personal best of 35:02.80 finished 24th among college-attached runners, out-performing athletes from across the SEC, ACC and Big 10. The Pennsylvania-native’s new mark comes just a week removed from the 1500m PR she set at VertKlasse (4:46.17), and two weeks removed from the first-place finish she took in the Yellow Jacket Invitational 5000m (7:07.96).

Multis athlete Anika Weisbrod was the first to record a top-10 mark for the Panthers on Friday, with her performance in the women’s long jump kickstarting the festivities. Weisbrod cleared a mark of 5.40m in this year’s Raleigh Relays high jump, less than seven days after collecting a career-high 4,554 points in her VertKlasse heptathlon runner-up finish.

Freshmen performers Nyile Facey and Leah Bolden followed up with top-10 finishes of their own on the track. Facey clocked in with a time of 14.47 in the third 100m hurdles race of her young career, while Bolden crossed the finish line with a 12.19 in the 100m later in the afternoon.

The two first-year Panthers combined with fellow freshmen Taylor Arthur and Camryn Harper during the 1600m sprint medley relay, working their way to third overall (4:03.46) to finish in front of the likes of ACC-rivals Pittsburgh and Wake Forest.

Geis’ record-setting mark would not be the only personal record on the day, as sophomore Franzi Jakobs had a career day over in the 1500m. Beating her previous best by just over two seconds, Jakobs crossed the finish line with a time of 4:42.30, racing the fourth 1500m of her two years at High Point.
