High Point Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth in Loaded Field at Irish Creek Intercollegiate

• Junior Brendan MacDougall and freshman Brandon Einstein finished tied for 22nd at even-par 213.
• As a team, High Point tied for ninth overall at 1-over 853.
• The Panthers posted the second-lowest team score of the season with a 3-under 281 in the final round.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team placed tied for ninth at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate with a score of 1-over 853 on Sunday, April 7, at the Club at Irish Creek.

As a team, HPU shot 3-under 281 in the final round. High Point’s final round team score is the second-lowest score by the Panthers this season. In a field featuring four top 50 teams, UNCG won the tournament at 18-under 834, while No. 49 Ohio State was second at 10-under 842.

“I am very proud of the way this team battled in this elite event,” HPU head coach Brady Gregor said. “It truly was the best team golf I’ve seen out of us this year. A different person stepped up for us each day and that’s what it is all about. Awesome to come out in the final round before conference and shoot our second-lowest team score of the season. We will take this momentum to conference and we all know how special the Patriot is to us.”

Junior Brendan MacDougall and freshman Brandon Einstein were the top finishers for HPU as they tied for 22nd with scores of even-par 213.

MacDougall posted a final round score of even-par 71. He had three birdies in the last round and 11 for the tournament. Einstein closed the tournament with a final round score of 3-under 68. He eagled the par-5 13th hole and logged six birdies for the tournament.

Junior Alec Weary tied for 49th at 5-over 218. Alec Weary opened the tournament with a career-low 3-under 68 and recorded seven birdies and one eagle over the three rounds.

Freshman Drew Weary also shot 5-over 218 and tied for 49th. His score of 5-over 218 was the lowest score of his career in a 54-hole tournament. He logged a career-high 11 birdies for the tournament. The freshman was 1-over 72 in the final round.

Sophomore Ryan McCarthy placed 86th with a score of 15-over 228. He finished the tournament with a score of 1-under 70 in the final round. McCarthy had six birdies over the two days.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Ninety Six, S.C. for the Big South Championship at the Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor.
