Men’s Track: Cardona & Clasper With Top Marks In Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – High Point University men’s track and field is leaving the Aggie Invitational with a pair of Saturday wins, as Siro Pina Cardona and Carter Clasper post top marks in the 1500m and pole vault respectively.

A trio of Panthers set new personal records in the 1500m, with the sophomore Cardona leading the field at 3:55.48. Running in his first 1500m of the outdoor season, Cardona set a new career best with his time of 3:55.48. He finished just two spots ahead of teammate Patrick Van Der Cruyssen, who tallied a PR as well, while crossing the finish line at 4:02.76.

HPU logged the highest collegiate mark in the pole vault as well, with junior Carter Clasper clearing 4.77m on his first attempt. He was followed in order by teammate Jordan McClung with a 4.47m, while Zane Griffith wrapped up the Panthers’ performance in the event at 4.32m.

Clearing 1.95m on his first approach at the height, Gabriel Stainback took fourth among attached athletes in the high jump on attempts. The sophomore came just short of clearing 2.00 meters for the third time in his career, as his tally currently stands in fourth in the Big South.

First-year Panther Bobby Dupell III put up career numbers for the Purple & White over in the 400m as well. The freshman tied his current career best with a time of 50.16, finishing ninth among attached athletes in the field.

HPU Women Dominate Pole Vault In Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – High Point University women’s track and field were dominant in the pole vault this Saturday, as the Panthers wrapped up the second and final day of this year’s Aggie Invitational.

Starting at 3.82m for her first jump, sophomore Nathalie Elliott cleared her first two progressions in just three attempts in total, to eliminate the rest of the field. As the only competitor remaining, Elliott chose her own heights for the remainder of the afternoon, ultimately clearing an outdoor PR of 4.03m. The Panther vaulter cleared the rest of the field by over 20 centimeters, but would not be the only athlete in Purple & White to finish in the top-five of the event.

Coming just two spots behind her teammate, Jessica Keys turned in the runner-up performance among attached athletes in the field, recording a 3.52m overall. Rachel Berndsen cleared 3.37m to take third among collegiates, while junior Haley Doyle tied her outdoor career best with a 3.22m.

COMING UP NEXT
The Panthers return to the Duke Invitational this Friday and Saturday, competing in the same meet that senior Keaton Case set her standing Panther record in the 800m (2:07.82) last year.
