NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – Greensboro College’s Scott Campbell opened play at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Tournament Tuesday.

“This is a really tough course,” Head Coach Jim Cantamessa said. “After a slow start, Scott battled back with a strong final nine holes and I hope that he can take that momentum into tomorrow.”

Campbell teed off on the par-72 Keene Run Golf Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club and carded a five-over par 77.

After bogeying the par-4 10th to open the day, Campbell recorded a birdie on the par-5 11th to move back to even par.

However, Campbell made the turn to the front nine at six-over par before recording six pars, two birdies, and one bogey over the final nine holes to gain one stroke back.

“The fairways are very tight and the rough is really long,” Campbell said. “I struggled over the first nine holes to get the ball into the fairway, but I was able to do better job of hitting the fairway and not putting myself in tough spots over the final nine holes.

“I am ready to get back out there tomorrow.”

Campbell finds himself just eight strokes behind Sam Goldenring from Williams College who carded a three-under par 69.

Campbell will return to the action at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday when he tees off on the par-72 Champion Trace Course.
