CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) announced the schedule and pairings for the 2019 NCHSAA Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Championships. The Championships will be played on Field 2 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, just behind the main stadium.
The 1A/2A/3A Combined Men’s Championship will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17th. Eastern Regional Champions, Chapel Hill (16-3), against the Western Regional Champions, Weddington (15-1). Weddington is the defending champion, with championships in 2017 and 2018. Chapel Hill is making their first appearance in the NCHSAA Lacrosse State Championship Game.
The 4A Men’s Championship will be contested at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th. The game will feature Cardinal Gibbons (17-4) and Ardrey Kell (20-2). Cardinal Gibbons men have appeared in the NCHSAA Lacrosse State Championship game on four previous occasions, winning three championships from 2014 through 2016. Ardrey Kell has never appeared in the Men’s Lacrosse State Championship Game.
The Open Division Women’s Championship will follow shortly after the 4A Men’s Championship. The game is expected to start around 2:00 p.m. and it will feature Cardinal Gibbons (17-3) and Charlotte Catholic (17-4). The Cardinal Gibbons women are making their fifth straight appearance in the NCHSAA Women’s Lacrosse State Championship Game. The Crusaders have claimed three straight titles dating back to 2016. Charlotte Catholic has appeared in four NCHSAA Women’s Lacrosse State Championships, most recently in 2014, and have won two State Titles.
