23 thoughts on “Metro 4A Conference 2019 Spring All-Conference Teams:Track and Women’s Soccer have been added in….

  1. Gavin Mortenson .405 Batting Average, 12 stolen bases, 6-0 Record, 0.66ERA, 31.2 Innings, 41 K’s, 3 earned runs

Hayden Summers .319 Batting Average, 13 XTRA base hits, 3 Homers, 7 stolen bases, 1.85 ERA, 6-1 Record 59 K’s.

People hate to see success and would rather vote for the underdog rather than the ones who deserve it. Page and Grimsley has to pitch their Ace to win. Maybe that’s why they refuse to play the same conference opponent twice in one week. It’s shame these kids aren’t getting the awards they deserve

  2. Congratulations to all of the All Conference players this year and congratulations to Jake Bloss. Well deserved!!!

  3. Rip Off,

Don’t understand the Agenda of theses Coaches. Pritchett had 12 errors and Spillman and Lipke are not on it . Both had 17 RBIs as well!!

  4. I’ve witnessed the last 15 years of Ragsdale baseball and I’m beyond speechless..

  5. I agree! I’ve seen Spillman play 6 times in the last 2 years and he is clearly one of the top players in the conference but according to this list he’s not even one of the top 4 on his team. Page ended up 3rd in the conference and had SEVEN players picked. You would think they would’ve went 8-0 or something. Page and grimsley make each other look great because neither one of them can hit

  6. It’s so obvious but sad that Coaches bias/rationalize who they place. You look at Ragsdale’s player stats and even my wife would be shaken her head. Donnie Ball baby

  7. Rip Off,

How does these stats not make it: .342/7 2Bs/3 Hrs/ 17 RBIs?

While Page has its whole starting lineup making it?

  8. Arguments can be made for those left off, but Bloss was clearly the player of the year. Pitching: 55.2 IP, 100 Ks, 1.13 ERA, 5-0 in conference games with 2 shutouts, no-hitter v. Ragsdale. Hitting: 24 RBIs, 3 HRs, .609 SA, .377 BA. Conference leader in RBIs and HRs hitting, and in IP and Ks pitching. No other player in the conference both pitched and hit as well as Bloss did. Credit was given to whom credit was due. Congrats to all of the honored players.

  9. When you send your kids off to practice, you turn your kids over to the coaches, to coach and lead your kids…

Many times, and it looks like this is case here on this post for the All-Conference baseball team, you as the parents get upset with the final outcome.

But the parents are the ones that sent their kids to the said school and said coach…Once you give or hand the kids over, haven’t you released them to the coaches and for better or worse, you made the decision and you pretty much have to deal with it, like it or not…

We see disgruntled and and upset parents, but the parents pretty much said to the coach, here is my son, coach him and he is yours for February-early May….

If you make that decision to let them play for a given coach or a given school, you don’t really have a ton of room to complain…

I can see some concern and frustration when it doesn’t go your way, but I can’t see tearing the coaches or other players down, when it didn’t turn out the way you wanted or expected…

Some of the talk is just basic talk and blowing off steam and I can see that, but with the numbers I saw above for Jake Bloss, it appears he put up worthy numbers to be named the Conference MVP…
(He had very solid pitching and hitting numbers.)

Plus Bloss got his team to the Second Round of the playoffs…

I think all of these kids did a great job this year, and sure there were times when it could have gone better, but it didn’t turn out to please you, so just get back to work and prove everybody wrong and show them that the you(any local athlete you choose to name) was better than the he or even she, was given credit for…

We all must get out there each day and if we want to be the best or at the best among the other participants, we must do the work it requires to be the best….

If I took off running down the road today and ran three or four miles and came home and told myself I was great or I was the best on the block, I would be be fooling myself and would be dead-on wrong…If went out and did the same every day for say a year or two and continued to get better and maybe along the way others were falling by the wayside, then maybe at that time/point, I might be making some strides…

It is a long road, and if you want to stay in the game and succeed you have to be the last man to leave the gym or the field, and be there when to help them turn out the lights…

The formula looks simple, but it is not really all that easy….You have to bust your tail in this society just have a chance to be among the competitors..

Support your kids in their efforts and stick with and support your coaches, while they are your coaches and it will pay off…

Hope this comment made a little sense to you…

I do not want to cut off the conversation, I just want to make sure no kid or coach gets treated improperly here…

Please give the kids and the coaches your support…

  10. If your team can’t even finish over .500 with 3 top commits you shouldn’t be player of the year

  11. Bloss had 0 hits and didn’t pitch against northwest in two games. Those are telling stats

  12. Another part of the equation we should look at in a civilized manner is this…

Should this be looked at as just numbers compiled in the regular season and should you just be looking at Metro 4-A Conference play only and shouldn’t you be looking at what the kids did against all of the teams in the Conference and not just going head-to-head with Grimsley vs. Northwest Guilford….

Grimsley did finish the season above .500, at albeit (13-12), but that is above .500 and the other key point, if we are looking at all of the results, Grimsley did reach the Second Round of the playoffs….

I had talked to Jake Bloss after the Page playoff game, and he said himself that Grimsley should have won more games, but they did win some big ones, and you have to give them the credit they deserve for that….

Again, I think you really have to look at what players did against all teams and in particular all of the conference teams, and not just what they against one team…

Just a few thoughts, but I do think once somebody has their mind made up, we are not going to change their mind here….Some folks will not be changing, because they are only going to see it one way….

Hope all are having a good day….

  13. Bruh rip off is so madddddddd bruh goofy talkin that lame but ain’t gone keep it 38 and just realize jakes the best pitcher in the league and the only person who can come close is Carson Payne without a torn labrum or whatever he has now

  14. Thank you Andy for your reporting this year. Enjoyed the interviews. Well spoken coaches and athletes. Thank you coaches; the time you dedicate to the student athletes is amazing! People are quick to be critical and slow to praise. Thank you to the teammates. There is no “I” in team. To the players that support each other through good and bad hats off for being good role models and teammates. There are some amazing student athletes on these lists. All well deserved. Congratulations!

  15. With all the “talent” NW has you’d think they couldve made a run in the playoffs…

  16. Page would’ve won conference EASILY if star lefty pitcher Shane Bartels would’ve been healthy for the season. A lot of what ifs around this season if bartels is healthy.

  17. We are heading out for a while and we will let this one sit and rest for a while…

Time to give our comments a break, before we break something and we might have to bring in Tom Sawyer to re-paint our fence and mend that fence…

  18. Back at my desk/table and this comment came in just after we closed out the comments…And this comes in from the Softball side…And with that has been said within the baseball circle, we give the Softball Circle side of things, their say….

Andy, first, I appreciate all you do for high school sports in this area, thank you.

This same situation happened in softball. Stats do not lie. My daughter, Emma Moberg, who goes to NW, was Conference Pitcher of the Year last year, and it was given to Natalie Brown at Page this year. Emma’s ERA, in conference, was 1.35. Abbie Bebe, at HP Centrals, was a 1.62 & Natalie Brown’s was 2.10. Emma had 6 earned runs in conference with just 6 runs allowed against her altogether and did not pitch either Grimsley game. Natalie Brown had 11 earned runs but 31 runs allowed & she pitched both Grimsley games. Natalie did lead the conference in SO’s but she also pitched more innings than either Abbie & Emma. Emma walked 8 batters in conference and Natalie was liked 19. If you are basing this “award”, and I use that term very loosely at this point, on who is the best pitcher please explain to me how this happened. Abbie Bebe does not pitch full-time any longer and did so to help her team out and did it well.

Am I a parent upset because my kid didn’t get an award she has worked her tail off for 7 years, yes, I am, especially when there is nothing statistically to say someone else deserved it. Do I think not getting this award is going to keep her from going to college, no, I know better than that. I also know that Emma, a sophomore this year, has 2 more years to pitch to these teams and I also know that she will be out to prove herself even more next year. So if the coaches in our conference want to continue to “give everyone a trophy” they can continue to do that but please at least make yourselves look like they have some common sense!

Maybe i’ve been wrong all these years in thinking these “awards” are based on stats, apparently it’s a personality contest or a political war between the schools and coaches.

    Thank you,
    Liza Moberg

  19. If anyone has any other comments, just send them to andy@greensborosports.com and we will look them over and see if we can post them…

Headed out to a baseball game here in a few minutes, but will check back in here later on…
