Elon Women’s Tennis’s Zenoni Wins ITA Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Regional Award

TEMPE, Ariz. – Elon University women’s tennis senior Suzanne Zenoni has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner for the Carolinas Region, the organization announced on Saturday morning, May 18.

The Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level. This award which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO men’s and women’s players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Zenoni earns her first-career Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. Prior to Zenoni, Erica Braschi (2017), Barbora Lazarova (2015) and Bryn Khoury (2014) were the other three Elon players to receive the regional honor for the Phoenix.

Earlier this week, Zenoni collected multiple major awards at the 45th Annual Elon Athletics Awards Banquet on Monday, May 13, as she was named the recipient of the Robert C. Browne Memorial Sportsmanship Award and the A.L. Hook Scholar-Athlete Award. Additionally, she was named the 2018-19 CAA Female Institutional Scholar-Athlete of the Year on March 27 by the league.

For her hard work in the classroom during her career, Zenoni has been a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and a four-time CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award recipient as she maintains 3.95 GPA as an accounting major. She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi and the Phi Eta Sigma honor societies, as well as the President’s List and the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. On the court, Zenoni has amassed 50 singles wins and 44 doubles victories in dual matches during her collegiate career. Each of those totals rank eighth in program history. She played at the No. 1 singles position and the No. 3 doubles spot as a senior during the 2019 season.

The national award winners for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association will be released on Sunday, May 19th.
