Asheboro Copperheads 7, Florence RedWolves 5
Nicholson’s monster night leads Copperheads past RedWolves, 7-5

Myles Nicholson (Mt. St. Mary’s) hit a pair of towering solo home runs as the Asheboro Copperheads ended a two-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over the Florence RedWolves at McCrary Park on Thursday night.

Tyler Cranston (Elon) and Josh Hood (Penn) added two-run blasts in the third and fifth innings, respectively as the Copperheads jumped out to an early 6-0 lead.

Jordan Geber (Mt. St. Mary’s) got the start for Asheboro and pitched into the seventh inning, giving up just two runs, and striking out six batters en route to picking up the win.

Brendan Kennedy was tagged with the loss as the Florence starter pitched five innings, giving up 6 runs, and striking out 7.

The RedWolves bullpen slowed down the Copperheads offense in the later innings as Florence mounted a comeback.

Jake Swartz and Grey Epps both had run-scoring singles in seventh to get the RedWolves on the board. A Nathan Medrano bloop double plated another run in the eighth to cut the Copperheads lead to 7-4.

In the ninth inning, Mitch Barrow singled up the middle to make it a two-run game, and Florence brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but Cam Reid (Pfeiffer) got Zachary Durfee to ground out to end the ballgame.

Dalton Sinquefield (Troy) and Clayton Engel (Drury) also tallied two hits apiece for the Copperheads.
