WHITE PLAINS, New York (WABC)
— An Arena League Football team was robbed at some point during a game in New York Sunday night.

The Carolina Cobras were visiting the New York Streets in a game at the Westchester County Center.

Police say members of the Cobras reported at halftime that an unidentified suspect entered their locker room and stole a ring and about $3,000 in cash from multiple lockers.

The game did not continue after the incident, with a Streets spokesperson saying both teams’ coaches and management decided it was best to not resume.

Iona graduate student Dondre Lemon was covering the game and taking video.

“It was crowded with people, kids were having fun, laughing, enjoying a good time,” he said. “To hear that this happened and cut the game really short, it was really upsetting.”

Police said that during the last home game earlier in July, one of the dancers had money stolen from another room where they get ready for their dance routines. They are looking to see if both of those incidents are connected.

“Westchester County police are working with the Streets, the Cobras and the league by reviewing security footage inside the Westchester County Center,” the spokesperson said. “The Streets sincerely apologize to the Cobras organization – including their players, coaches, ownership – and the fans of the Streets and the National Arena League.”

Westchester County Police Chief Hodges said a person of interest has been identified, but that person is not a suspect at this time and no arrests have been made.

“We do have a person of interest that we would like to talk to,” Chief Inspector John Hodges said. “I can’t say we have any suspects at this time, and we do have some video…I would expect that hopefully we will have some closure on this in a short period of time.”

The league provides security for the games at the County Center, who officials say follow the players.

The investigation is ongoing.

A thief snuck into an Arena Football team’s locker room and made off with a few thousand in cash while the players were on the field Sunday night in New York.

The Carolina Cobras were up 46-0 on the New York Streets when they went in for halftime and realized that a thief had rummaged through their lockers and stole $3,000 and a ring, according to Westchester County Police.

The 7 p.m. game was called off after the robbery.

Cops said Monday they are reviewing videos from the arena and have a person of interest in the theft.

It was unclear how the crook got into the locker room or what security, if any, was outside the away team’s room.

Teams are responsible for providing security when they play at the 5,000-seat Westchester County Center, located in White Plains, as part of the county’s contract with the Arena Football League, according to authorities.

A similar robbery was reported at the stadium on July 5 when a thief snatched $1,000 in rent money from one of the NY Streets dancers, cops said.

In a statement to Metro, the league said, “The County Center is working with the New York Streets to issue patrons refunds. The Streets sincerely apologize to the Cobras organization — including their players, coaches, ownership — and the fans of the Streets and the National Arena League.”

Police: Larceny ends charity football game in White Plains
WHITE PLAINS –

A charity football game in White Plains was called off at halftime because of a reported larceny.

The New York Streets took on the Carolina Cobras Sunday night at the Westchester County Center.

County police report about $3,000 in cash and a ring were stolen from members of the Carolina Cobras during the arena football game.

The team reported the incident during halftime and refused to play the second half of the game.

Dondre Lemon, who was covering the game for Iona College, says that after about 20 minutes, the Cobras players walked out with their bags and shook hands with the other players. A few minutes after that, everyone was asked to leave.

Lemon says people need access to get into the locker rooms, but it was a really busy night.

The County Parks Department released statement which said in part: “While the Westchester County Police are present at the Westchester County Center, they do not provide security for the arena football players or their lockers.”

Westchester County Executive George Latimer says there has been no incidents at previous shows.

“We have to look at this particular incident and determine is this indicative of some general lack of something or is it specific to this particular set of circumstances,” Latimer said.

Investigators are working to figure out what exactly happened. They say they are working with both teams and reviewing surveillance footage.

A security breach at Westchester County Center prompted Sunday night’s National Arena League matchup between the New York Streets and Carolina Cobras to be canceled at halftime, a source confirmed with Metro New York.

The visiting Cobras’ locker room was broken into where players’ valuables were stolen during the game.

The Westchester County Center, located in White Plains, is a 5,000-seat arena that is home to the Streets, the WNBA’s New York Liberty, and the Knicks’ G-League affiliate.

After the discovery of the breach at halftime, players did not return to the field and the arena football game was called off.

Fans were forced to wait for approximately a half-hour before being told to leave the venue with the Cobras leading 46-0.

This is not the first time a theft such as this has occurred at Westchester County Center. During the Streets’ previous home game on Jul. 5, the franchise’s dance team’s locker room was broken into and over $1,500 was stolen from them, a former dance team member told Metro New York under cover of anonymity.

The Streets dance team confirmed the burglaries, adding that no action was taken by team owner Corey Galloway.

Metro is awaiting comment from Galloway on both incidents and Westchester County Center’s building management was unavailable for comment upon request.

Westchester County Police are working with both teams and the NAL by reviewing security footage, a league spokesperson told Metro.

“The County Center is working with the New York Streets to issue patrons refunds,” he continued. “The Streets sincerely apologize to the Cobras organization — including their players, coaches, ownership — and the fans of the Streets and the National Arena League.

Sunday night’s game was the final home tilt of the 2019 season for the Streets. They wrap up their season in Worcester, MA on Jul. 27 against the Massachusetts Pirates.

The National Arena League is in its second year of existence and contains just six teams — all of whom are on or near the East Coast. The Streets were 3-9 in their inaugural entering Sunday night’s game, ranked fifth in the league.

WHITE PLAINS – An arena football game at Westchester County Center was cancelled at halftime Sunday night after items were taken from one of the team’s locker rooms, according to the National Arena League.

The Carolina Cobras were playing against the host New York Streets when the Cobras’ locker room was accessed and players and coaches’ personal items were removed without permission, the League’s statement said.

Westchester County Police are working with the League and both teams and reviewing security footage of the area and the County Center is working with the teams to issue refunds to patrons.

County police said the visiting team reported that $3,000 in cash and a ring was missing from multiple lockers. The value of the ring is undetermined.

Police said a similar theft occurred during a New York Streets game on July 5 at the County Center when a member of the Streets dance team reported that someone stole $1,000 cash from her bag, which was left unattended in a changing room used by the team.

Both larcenies are under investigation and detectives are looking to speak with a person of interest in the case, a police spokesman said Monday.
