CAA Weekly Awards

Jones earned this honor after a week in which she scored two goals in wins over Charleston and James Madison. Against Charleston, Jones scored the equalizing goal in the closing moments of the first half to knot the game up at 1-1. Her second goal of the weekend came on a header off a Hannah Doherty free kick that extended Elon’s lead to 3-1 just before the half. The goals marked her team leading eighth and ninth of the season.

This marks the fourth time this season that Elon has earned a CAA Player of the Week Award. Earlier in the year, Jones and freshman forward Beky Myers won CAA Player of the Week and CAA Rookie of the Week respectively. The Phoenix’s first CAA Weekly Award this season was given to Bethany Harford, who won the Rookie of the Week award for scoring the game-winning goal of Elon’s 1-0 win over Canisius in its season opener. Hannah Doherty has also earned CAA honors this year after being named to the All-CAA Preseason Team for 2019-20.

Other awards handed out on Monday went to Megan Adams of Northeastern who collected the CAA Defensive Player of the Week Award, and Emily Moxley of UNCW who took home the Rookie of the Week Award.

Elon is currently 11-3-2 this season with a 5-1-1 record in conference play. The Phoenix’s stellar play this year has it positioned at second in the conference, and has clinched a berth into the upcoming CAA Women’s Soccer Championship beginning Nov. 3. Elon also holds the conference leads in goals (39) and goal differential (+16).

The Phoenix returns to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 24, when it travels to Newark, Del. to take on Delaware at 7 p.m.
