Elon Women’s Cross Country Notches Highest Regional Ranking Ever

NEW ORLEANS – On the heels of its first-ever conference championship, the Elon University women’s cross country team picked up its highest regional ranking during the regular season as the Phoenix was placed sixth in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Regional Rankings as announced on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

After securing its first Colonial Athletic Association championship this past Saturday, Nov. 2, Elon moved up to No. 6 in the Southeast Region, improving one spot from last week’s rankings. The Phoenix has matched its highest ranking at any point in the poll with the maroon and gold also being ranked sixth in 2014 preseason poll.

NC State sits at the top of the Southeast Region followed by Furman in second. The Wolfpack won the ACC and the Paladins won the Southern Conference championships this past weekend. Virginia Tech, placing fourth in the ACC, stayed at No. 3, while No. 4 Wake Forest and No. 5 North Carolina moved up one spot from the previous week.

The Phoenix will be back in action for the Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 15, hosted by the University of Virginia.
