High School Basketball Tonight Finals:Early-Season Thriller at the Mac Morris Gym, where Page boys top Northern Guilford, 68-66, in Overtime/GDS Girls go to (10-0)

Also from around the county:Northwest Guilford boys 83, Southwest Guilford 69Dudley boys 59, High Point Central 18 and more scores below….

Overtime Thriller from the Mac Morris Gym, on the Page High School campus, where the Pirate men topped Northern Guilford, 68-66, and the Page Pirates led early, taking a 19-10 lead after one quarter…Page led 38-22, up by 16 points at halftime…Page was clinging to a 3-point lead after three quarters/periods, Page up 47-43….

Then there was that fourth quarter…We were tied at 47-47, with 6:16 to play in the game…Northern went up 51-50 for their first lead of the game with 4:38 to play…Page ties the game at 51-51 and then Page goes up 52-51 with around 1:30 to play…Northern then re-gains the lead at 57-56 with 55 seconds left in regulation….Page hits a shot with 18.1 seconds left in regulation and we are tied at 58-58 and we are headed for Overtime…

In Overtime, the game is still going back-and-forth until Jaden Ellis gets in the lane with around 6 seconds left in the OT stanza, and he hits a little floater/runner and Page gets the two they need, to win the ballgame…Page Pirates pull it out, over Northern Guilford, 68-66….

Ellis could not buy a basket, or hit a key free throw late in regulation, or in the early parts of the Overtime, but when it mattered the most, the junior guard was clutch, and he hit the key basket/bucket to settle the contest in the extra session….

Jaden Ellis, from Page, led all scorers with 27 points and he 17 of his 27 points, in the first half….Jason Sellars and Zion Conner hit some key free throws for Page down the stretch, and when Ellis was struggling with his shot late in the game, he laid out an assist, that would make Roy Williams smile….

Rashawn Pleasant, Adonijah Whitley, Nolan Hodge, Carson Lomax, Jordan Pyke, Jackson Helms, and Josish Sims were all big for Northern Guilford….Whitley, Lomax, and Helms were all hitting key three pointers down the stretch…..Lomax fouled out in OT, and that took some steam out of the Nighthawks approach, and placed the steam in the Pirates’ sails…Along with Ellis, Conner and Sellers, Whit Edwards, Tyler McIntyre, Mike Maxwell, Justin Davis and Jonathan Campbell, they were all digging deep for Page tonight….

Page goes to (5-0) with the victory and Northern Guilford falls to (0-2) with the loss…Dudley at Page tomorrow night, with the girls at 6 and the boys to follow at 7:30pm…Page coach Evan Fancourt had his men just sharp enough tonight, and they pull out the victory, at the Mac Morris Gym….

**********On a sad and concerning note…No Coach Kim Furlough for the Northern Guilford girls tonight….Coach Furlough was out due to returning complications due to cancer and our thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family, husband John, son Matt and daughter Sammi tonight….We wish and hope she is back on the sidelines soon, but the word is she may have to miss up to two months….Hope and pray she is back much sooner than that and again, we give it up tonight for Coach Furlough and her husband John and children Matt and Sammi…Both children still in college, to my knowledge, with Sammi doing undergraduate work and Matt in grad school…..Coach Furlough definitely missed by all tonight, and we look forward to seeing her return to the sidelines….**********
