Boys final from the Roger Nelson Gymnasium, on the Northwest Guilford High School campus:
Northwest Guilford 62, Eastern Guilford 60
Northwest led Eastern 53-33 at the end of the Third Quarter and the Vikings led by as many as 22 points in the Second Half, but the Eastern Guilford Wildcats would not go away…EG down 22 and then cut the NWG Vikings’ lead to just 53-49 NWG over EG, with 3:59 to go in the Fourth Quarter…

NWG was up 57-56 with 44.2 seconds left in the game, then NWG is leading EG, 59-58 with 17.4 seconds remaining to be played in the contest…NWG’s Christian Hampton hit 4 key free throws down the stretch, and both cases/trips to the foul line, were one-and-one opportunities, and Hampton came up big and he nailed those free throws to ice the victory for Northwest Guilford….

The game was close early, with the score at 7-7 early in the First Quarter, and then NWG went on a 7-0 run to lead 14-7 over Eastern, before EG closed the gap and our score at the end of the First Quarter was:NWG 14, Eastern Guilford 10….

By Halftime, Northwest had a commanding 38-26 advantage and the Vikings saw that lead swell up to 53-33, at the end of the Third Quarter….

Then NWG goes up by 22 points, before the Eastern Guilford Wildcats came roaring back behind Kamell Smith and his EG teammates and at the end, we had a ballgame, but Northwest Guilford works some magic and pulls this game out of the fire, winning 62-60, over the Eastern Guilford Wildcats….

I think we are getting pretty good at picking out the close games here early in the season, at least for the boys…Last night Page over Northern Guilford, 68-66 in Overtime, and tonight NWG hangs on to defeat Eastern Guilford, 62-60…

  1. We were getting our info from the guy at the Food Rite Market, down on East Market Street….I can never get good info from that guy after 11:15pm for some reason….

  2. Andy, what a great game it was. Almost felt like a Regional Finals of Championship type Game with two strong teams. Dudley started strong with a funk and going up 6-2. Page, however bounced back and took a 9 to 8 lead. Page pushed the lead to 18-12 and lead 32-19 at the Half with the Guards hitting 3 pointers. The third quarter Page was up 37-25 before Dudley started chipping away,At the end of the 3rd Page was leading 45-40. To start the 4th Dudley scored on a alley-oop dunk and 3 pointer to take a 47-46 lead. Page came back a hit a 3 to re-take the lead at 49-47.Dudley tied it back up at 49 all. Dudley pushed the lead up to 57-51,however Page fought back with a full court trap to cut it to 1.However Dudley maintain the lead and got a tough win in a intense hostile environment. Page is a tough place to win. Both teams went after it and it was intense. Great win for Dudley.
