ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s basketball team shot 50-percent from the field as they capped off a 2-0 weekend at the Roger Taylor Invitational Classic, hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan College, with a 101-83 victory over the Knights of Southern Virginia University.

Over the first four minutes of the game, Greensboro quickly established an 11-6 lead after Greyson Collins and Keyshawn Dorsey combined for six straight points. After the two teams traded baskets over the next 5:48, Eric Peaks Jr. hit a three pointer to extend the Pride lead to 25-17 with 9:07 remaining in the first half.

However, Greensboro was not done extending their lead as they outscored the Knights by 11 over the remainder of the half to take a 54-35 lead into the break.

As the second half got underway, both teams were able to find the bottom of the net but Southern Virginia was able to pull back to within 13 with 13:53 on the clock. Despite allowing the Knights to close the gap over the six-minute gap, Greensboro was then able to get ball rolling again and went on a 14-5 run over the next five minutes to extend their lead out to 83-61, following another Dorsey basket.

Over the remainder of the contest, the Pride defense continued to hold strong, while the offense went on to lead by as many as 25 points, and secured the 18-point victory.

Michael Phifer(Morehead High School) continued his strong play as he finished the afternoon with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Peaks Jr. finished with a team-high 19 points. Greyson Collins (17), Dorsey (11), Justin Minnis (11), and Keyford Langley (10) also finished in double figures scoring.

The Pride men will return to action Dec. 17 when they open USA South Athletic Conference play against the Panthers of LaGrange College in Hanes Gymnasium. For more information on Greensboro College men’s basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
