Game Report on Northwest Guilford-Pinecrest Boys Basketball:NWG Vikings fall behind early and drop first game on the season in a tough, Defensive Battle/Vikes down 24-12 at half

PINECREST HIGH 50, NORTHWEST GUILFORD 41
GAME NOTES:
–Northwest Guilford played Pinecrest High tonight in the championship match at the Holiday in the Pines tournament final in Southern Pines, NC.

This was a defensive battle from the tip off until the end of the game. Pinecrest came out hot and scored 11 pretty quickly and went up 11-0 early in the first quarter. Northwest struggled to score early and ended up getting its first bucket nearly 3 minutes into the game off of a jump shot from Chris Hampton.

Northwest would struggle to convert on Pinecrest’s missed opportunities and go into the half down 24-12. The Vikings would cut into the lead in the 2nd half cutting Pinecrest’s lead to 5 but ultimately the Vikings would not be able to catch up. It was a good defensive battle by both teams but ultimately Pinecrest would hold off the Vikings in this one 50-41.

–Chris Hampton led the Vikings in scoring with 13 points and 3 rebounds. Connor Ballou added a spark off of the bench with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Brandon Thomas had 5 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Dean Reiber had 5 points, Drew Watkins added 4 points along with 6 rebounds while Robbie Boulton and Josh Humphrey added 2 points each.
