NORTHWEST GUILFORD 74, GRIMSLEY 72
GAME NOTES:
–The #3 seed and defending HAECO champs Northwest Guilford faced off against the #6 seed Grimsley in the first round of the HAECO Invitational Tournament in Greensboro, NC. Northwest got off to a bit of a slow start in this one but in the 2nd quarter the Vikings found their offensive rhythm behind consistent shooting from Brandon Thomas. The Vikings would go into the half up 40-29.

The Vikings would come out of halftime and go up by as many as 16 but Grimsley would not lay down and start cutting into the lead late in the 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter.

Grimsley made the game very interesting with about 90 seconds remaining being down only by 2 points. However, the Vikings would hold on in this one making some key free throws at the end surviving Grimsley’s efforts to come back 74-72.

–Brandon Thomas led the Vikings in scoring with 25 points and he also had 5 assists and 5 steals. Dean Reiber had 19 points and 3 blocks. Josh Humphrey added 9 points along with 4 rebounds while Drew Watkins had 7 points. Jake Kawalec had 3 points and 4 rebounds while Connor Ballou had 6 points and 3 assists. Robbie Boulton would finish with 5 points and 6 rebounds.
