Women’s Basketball Opens 2020 With 71-49 Victory Over Methodist

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s basketball team defeated the Monarch of Methodist University Saturday 71-49.

Katie Lewis(Southeast Guilford High School) hit her first three shots of the game to give the Pride a 7-5 lead before Methodist outscored Greensboro 7-4 over the next 2:42 to take a 12-11 lead. However, the Pride closed out the final 2:04 of the first period on a 10-2 run to take a 21-14 lead into the second. During the run, Ashley Free and Lewis both had five points.

Greensboro was not done pulling away from the Monarchs as they used a 16-3 run over the first 7:29 of the period to establish a 20-point advantage before going into halftime with a 41-23 lead. Ashley Free once again fueled the Pride run with seven points, while Diajah Hickson added five points.

Following the break, Greensboro was able to maintain their 18-point advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of action before outscoring the Monarch 17-13 in the fourth period to secure the victory.

Lewis(Southeast Guilford High School) finished with a game-high 22 point to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Hickson finished just shy of a triple-double as she collected 13 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals.
