Chris Lea(WXII TV 12) leaving the Triad and headed to the Triangle

Current WXII TV 12 Sports Director Chris Lea is leaving WXII in Winston-Salem, and he is on his way to the Triangle to work for WRAL/TV5…Chris Lea is very local, as he graduated from Southwest Guilford High School and he attended UNCG…Lea covered the local sports and he covered it well…Lea did a big feature on Twitter and on WXII Live with Dudley High School WR Michael Wyman, as “Big Mike” got ready to sign with the South Carolina Gamecocks…Lea was also a very big professional wrestling fan, and he spent some time in ring with some of the local professional grapplers…Lea’s leaving makes this the second WXII Sports Director to move out and move on, in the past year….Previously, Brian Formica pulled up stakes and took his sports reporting career out toward Arizona…Chris Lea, leaving WXII TV 12 and his last days are almost upon us…

Chris Lea will join the WRAL sports team beginning March 4, 2020, just in time for ACC Tournament coverage.

Lea comes to WRAL after 7 years at WXII in Winston-Salem where he’s currently leading the station’s sports efforts. Lea will join the on-air WRAL-TV sports team alongside Mary Dunleavy and Jared Fialko and work collaboratively with the wralsportsfan.com team with significant digital and social contributions.

Lea is a graduate of UNC Greensboro and a native of North Carolina. He grew up in the Greensboro and High Point areas and began his television career as a Traffic Anchor/Reporter before becoming a Sports Anchor/Reporter/Photographer. He has also been a radio personality, talk show host and producer with WJMH-FM since 2005.
