Elon’s Liggs Picks Up Fifth All-America Honor

ELON, N.C.Elon University football defensive back Greg Liggs, Jr.(Southeast Guilford High School) picked up his fifth All-America honor of the year Monday, Jan. 6, in being named a Walter Camp FCS All-American.

Liggs(Southeast Guilford HS), a First Team All-CAA Football pick and a Buck Buchanan Award finalist, led the nation with eight interceptions this season and also contributed 49 total tackles and five pass breakups. He recorded three interceptions in two separate games and had seven pick-offs in three October games. At season’s end, his eight interceptions set a new Division I program record at Elon and his 15 career interceptions did the same.

This marks Liggs’ fifth All-America award of the 2019 offseason. He also named a First Team STATS FCS Football All-America selection, First Team Associated Press All-American, First Team AFCA All-American and a First Team HERO Sports All-American.

In being named a Walter Camp All-American, he is the fifth Elon student-athlete to earn recognition from the organization while marking the eighth honor overall. Chad Nkang was the first Elon athlete to earn the honor in 2005, followed by Terrell Hudgins three times from 2007-09, Andrew Wilcox in 2009 and Aaron Mellette in 2011 and 2012.

With the 2020 football schedule announced in November, Elon will next be back on the field Sept. 5 for a road matchup against The Citadel. Next season, Elon will open with two on the road at The Citadel and Duke (Sept. 12) before playing at Rhodes Stadium on Sept. 19 against Campbell. For the full schedule, click here.
