Frank Maldonado has left Greensboro College headed to the Gulf Coast League/Avery Booker now baseball coach for Greensboro College Pride

Frank Maldonado, resigned as the head baseball coach at Greensboro College last Thursday and Frank has made the move, and is on his way to the Gulf Coast League to be the hitting coach for the Tampa Bay Rays…

Maldonado’s Greensboro College baseball team went (22-19) last season and finished (12-9) in the USA South Conference, plus Maldonado’s Pride made it all the way to the Championship Game in the USA South Conference Baseball Tournament, coming all the way back through the loser’s bracket to earn a shot at the Conference Title…

Frank Maldonado was (73-87) in his four years as the Greensboro College head baseball coach, and now Frank has taken his game to Florida, where he will be coaching this season in the Gulf Coast League…

2019 was a great year for Greensboro College baseball, but 2020 should be a season that the GC Pride faithful can be proud of….

With Frank Maldonado gone, the Greensboro College hitting coach under Maldonado, Avery Booker, becomes the new Greensboro College baseball coach….Booker is the grandson of Jack McKeon, and the son of Greg Booker….McKeon managed the Florida Marlins to the World Series title in 2003 and was a key consultant for the Washington Nationals, the current World Series title holders, from the 2019 season…

Pure baseball in Bookers background, as his dad Greg Booker, was a professional baseball pitcher with the Padres, Twins and Giants, and Greg Booker later served as the pitching coach and bullpen coach for the Padres…An interesting note on Greg Booker and his father-in-law Jack McKeon:On June 29, 1989, McKeon, often called “Trader Jack”, traded his own son-in-law(Greg Booker) to the Minnesota Twins for pitcher Freddie Toliver(former Greensboro Hornet).

Greg Booker passed away due to complications from cancer in March of last year, and now just one year later, his son Avery, and Jack McKeon’s grandson, is now the coach of the Greensboro College Pride…

Avery Booker will be assisted by Matt Reed, son of the Atlanta Braves bullpen coach Marty Reed…Matt Reed is entering his fifth year on the Greensboro College baseball staff and he works mainly with the pitchers, and this season his main title will lean toward that of associate head coach/pitching coach…

Matt Reed is the current head coach of the Forest City Owls, of the Coastal Plain League, where Avery Booker has also been the coach of the Forest City CPL team, in recent seasons…

Avery Booker also with a strong background as a former coach for the Brevard College Tornados…

Greensboro College also has director of recruiting/recruiting coordinator Enad Haddad on staff, and Enad was most recently with the Winston-Salem State Rams, where he worked with Randy Norris Jr., drafted by the San Francisco Giants, in the 19th round of the 2018 draft, plus Enad worked with E.P. Reese, who was out of WSSU and selected by the Houston Astros in the 25th round of the 2019 draft…..WSSU also had All-American Emilo Abreau on their roster in 2018…Haddad ran the Greensboro Adult Baseball League for several seasons(head coach of the Greensboro Reds) and last Summer(2019), Enad was a coach for the Asheboro Copperheads in the CPL…

Avery Booker leading the way for the Greensboro College Pride and GC will begin the 2020 season with the start of practice on January 20, and the first game for the GC Pride is scheduled for February 7…

With Coach Booker out front and coaches Reed and Haddad at his side, the Greensboro College Pride will welcome 18 seniors back for the 2020 season, and with a large number of newcomers on board, this looks to be a promising season for the Pride…

Frank Maldonado now in Florida and Avery Booker, Matt Reed and Enad Haddad on West Market Street and pumped up/ready to get the new 2020 rolling for the Greensboro College Pride…

Everything is secure and all things are heading in the right direction for Greensboro College Pride Baseball……
