High School Basketball Tonight(1/14/2020) Final:Greensboro Day runs away from CA/Caldwell Academy with Bengals taking two by too many vs. CA Eagles(Looking at other scores from Tuesday games)/The Point goes to (13-0)/Freshman J3 Swindell with 33 pts./18 rebounds for WCD

Finals tonight and made our perch this evening over at the Greensboro Day School, on Lawndale Drive to watch the GDS Bengals take on the Eagles of Caldwell Academy, and it was all Bengals in both games tonight…Here is an update for tonight:The Point/College Prep Leadership Academy Middle School wins versus ORMA middle school 50-20 to move to 13-0. Next game Thursday away versus Winston-Salem Christian…

Girls Final:Greensboro Day School 51, Caldwell Academy 9
GDS(19-2)/Caldwell(5-11)
End of 1st Q:GDS 18, CA 0…Halftime:GDS 38, CA 4…End of 3rd Q:GDS 49, CA 4…Final:GDS 51, CA 9

Greensboro Day girls scoring:Very balanced…Drew Alexander led the way for the Lady Bengals with 14 points and she had four 3’s…Je’Bria “Full Throttle” Fullwood with 10 points and all 2’s on fastbreak/”Full Throttle” layups…Now we really go balanced:Hailey Blackwell with 4 points, also Saa’nyah Keaton and Emma Loria with 4 pts. each, Caroline Wyrick, Paula Grichan, Kate Jones, Ellis Parr and A’Shauna Robinson with 3 points a-piece with Wyrick, Jones, Parr and Robinson, all draining three’s….And I think that is it and it should all add up to 51 points….

Caldwell Academy girls scoring:Sara Freeman, Olivia Furst and Taylor Riffey all with three points each for Caldwell Academy….

Running clock came in the girl’s game with around 1:45 to go in the Third Quarter and the Caldwell Academy Eagles scored their first point of the game with 4:40 left to play in the First Half/Second Quarter, that is how tight the GDS defense was tonight….Justin Smith and the kid on the clock for the girl’s game and they did a great job….

GDS reserves played a ton of minutes in this game and as long as you play Defense, it doesn’t matter who is playing….Great Team Defense all day today, from Greensboro Day…GDS first unit, GDS second unit, GDS third unit, they all did the Defensive job…..The offense rolled because for the most part, the GDS players were following their shots and that how they scored…..First shot, Second shot, Third shot, keep taking them and you will start making them…You take more shots, you will end making more shots than your opponent…By following your shot, and especially in girls basketball, you will see/get so many more chances and in the end, it will end up winning you games…”You take more, You make more”….

Boys Final:Greensboro Day School 66, Caldwell Academy 33
GDS(22-2)/Caldwell(4-15)
End of 1s Q:GDS 30, Caldwell 10…Halftime:GDS 48, Caldwell 16…End of 3rd Q:GDS 56, Caldwell 20…Final:66, Caldwell 33
For Greensboro Day boys off night for Cam Hayes and Brock Williams, they did not play, and Bryce Williams was not dressed, he was in street clothes, and Christian Bailey did not play….So for GDS, 3 of their top 5 and 4 of their top 8 did not play and the Bengals still won by 33 points, and they could have easily hit the running clock in the second half, but Coach Freddy Johnson substituted freely and with all of the changes, you had a new looking lineup on the floor for GDS, every 2-3 minutes….Hayes warmed up, Williams warmed up and I think Bailey may have warmed up, but not totally sure, but sure of one thing, GDS plays very good Defense and they play disciplined Offense and they can beat quite a few teams, while playing their 6-15 players…Carson McCorkle looks to have a light cast on his lower right leg, from surgery you would think(thinking tibia or fibula bone), and he will be out of the Bengals lineup for several more weeks…..

GDS scoring:Cam Leake 12 points(Leake has a little extra hitch in his shot, that you don’t see from most jump-shooters), Jackson Noble with 10 points and I would give Jackson Noble at least 10 rebounds tonight, for sure his best yet/so far as a Bengal, Rahul Patel had 9 points on three 3’s, but he took a lot of three’s tonight and he had a lot of open looks due to his teammates finding him open outside around the arc, Cason Pierce with 8 points, and Pearce started the game, but did not need to play a ton of minutes in this game, as his reserve teammates took care of most of the heavy workload…Whit Trevey with 8 points and here’s another Bengal semi-regular who did not have to see a lot of minutes in this game, teammates and reserves were able to take care of this one…Ege Katitas with 8 points tonight and he had a smooth game and one of better rebounding and inside passing games tonight…Jordan Moody with 7 points and Moody just had a birthday this week, so it was a good night for him, and birthday news, by way of Twitter, where Coach Freddy Johnson wishes all of his current and former GDS Bengal basketball players, a Happy Birthday…..Donovan Strickland with 4 points and he was playing as a quick-guard with ball movement duties tonight…Looking back at the Bengals, nearly everyone that played scored and most of the players that scored were scoring 8-plus points in this game…..

Caldwell Academy scoring:Payne Bradley 10 points, Alex Raley 7 points…4 points each for Jackson Wierda and Caldwell’s Grant Collins…2 points a-piece for the CA Eagles’ Parker Jenkins, Mason Wierda, plus #25 and #14 who are not listed on MaxPreps….
